Took no responsibility for sub-contractor that he hired to pour a "rough finish" concrete floor in our barn. We ended up with a smooth finish, which is very unsafe for horses. We have had several horses with horrible falls...one was a pregnant mare. Thought this was common sense to do a rough finish on barn floors. Also, left excavation debris on property, blocking a natural creek flow across property, which we need to now rent heavy machinery to excavate ourselves. Also, the driveway he built washed out with heavy rains within a few months of completion of work. We got an estimate from another excavator to fix this, who told us $2,500 to repair(can't afford after we paid JR $50,000 which wiped us out....had to sell my car to pay him). When asked him and his wife(secretary) if JR "guaranteed" his work and told them driveway washed out, we got no answer(guess that's our answer). We are left with a slippery barn floor which has to be re-done, a blocked creek bed where he himself decided would be a good dumping ground for excavation debris, and atleast 20 trees knocked down and left in huge piles in our backyard(so unsightly and we have no bull dozer to move these), washed out driveway and ditches which will be costly for another excavator to repair by building up appropriately(according to the excavator who gave us estimate). It would appear, that in rural counties, in southern VA, legal recourse may not be an option for justice, as many Contractors and business owners know the Judges from the Country Club golf games, or from being in the courts so much, taking blind-sided home owners for every penny they have. We do still, however, have "freedom of speech", which is an American right.
